  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

My top 5 values are: Compassion, Freedom,  Enjoyment and Integrity. I narrowed these down as areas that are important to my life. I tried to think of things that resonate to me and the person I want to be. I will try my level best to live life through these values.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

I agree with Berry because I often hear people saying that it is a new day. Every day is an opportunity to make change and reminds us that time passes even if we are at a standstill. An interesting way to see the bigger picture, if you will.

I struggled to enjoy the sunsets this time around. I think it is because it's starting to get dark earlier and I am usually still working!

    Community Volunteer in My Community
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

Setting up a sharing economy is a great way to help your community be sustainable. Educating friends and family about ways to reduce waste and reusing items instead of throwing them into the garbage is another. I am learning a lot by participating in the Toronto Ecofair this year as a volunteer!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Host a Watch Party
What did you learn about in the documentary you watched? How did it make you feel?

The documentary reinforced my learning about racial injustice and discrimination. It made me livid. It made me want to demand change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
What did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?

I watched Strong Island over the weekend. A chilling documentary. I learned about a victim's family and how they were broken by their tragedy. How the system they believed in failed them and how they never got justice. I learned about racial segregation, redlining and injustice and how horribly unsustainable it is to treat whole populations unjustly and unfairly because a system cannot function properly if part of it is neglected and mistreated. It will break down.

Over the weekend, I enjoyed time with friends and family but even though I practice many Ecochallenge actions in my daily life, I was unable to check off the new action items I set for this challenge. I will do better this week!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Fatema Adamji 10/08/2020 10:20 AM
You can set up buddy workouts, walks or hikes so that you can spend quality time with the people you care about :) Hikes are great because they allow you to be out in nature while spending time with people!

Hiking is wonderful! It is also nice to go hiking with other people because they can show you trails you have never heard of before or gone on!
