Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

Our county has local full-service and self-service recycling centers that are available for residents to use. I found one of each near my home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/27/2020 6:21 PM
Image not needing to stop and put money into a fuel dispenser to fill up your car.  This will avoid breathing the vapors of fuel and may prevent you from the urge of going into the store to purchase something!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/27/2020 6:20 PM
Carry reusable bags in your vehicle and other places to remind you for their use as needed.  I always carry some in my backpack for work for use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/27/2020 6:18 PM
Carry a bottle with you wherever you go and fill up as needed!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/26/2020 1:25 PM
Planting trees improves the appearance, gives us the ability to see growth and change over time thus proving greater satisfaction. The trimming needed over time provides physical exercise.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Switching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/26/2020 1:10 PM
Motion sensing lights on exteriors of buildings are excellent methods to reducing your impact as applicable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it often difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places?

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/22/2020 3:17 PM
Think about the waste you may produce from your purchase.  Consider skipping the bag or evaluate options to reduce packaging.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Eco-Friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI's avatar
    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/21/2020 1:45 PM
Planting drought tolerant and native species is an excellent method to reduce water resources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    SCOTT BARANOWSKI 10/20/2020 9:22 AM
Landfill space is not infinite.  We all need to find more ways to reduce and eliminate food packing options.
