Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
Do at Home
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
Do at Home
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Water
5-Minute Showers
Do at Home
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Health
Happiness
Do at Home
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

Tesh Burke 10/26/2020 4:41 AMThis week was a challenge because twice I went to the grocery store and forgot my own bags at home. Lucky I was able to deal with it without using plastic bags.-
Gina Dullanty 10/26/2020 8:25 AMA man commented the other day as my family and I left the grocery store carrying our groceries in our hands 'Are bags that expensive?!'
I giggled and replied that it's the price of the planet- we chose to save the bag! Haha...
Even when we don't realize the impact we have on others know YOU do. Together we are creating a change, a change in society, a change in the way people think and a change for the world we live on!

Tesh Burke 10/18/2020 4:16 AMits can be challenging at times when you see so many items in Grocery stores that don't come in recyclable containers.-
Stacy Strickland 10/21/2020 8:45 AMDoesn't it just make you grind your teeth? I find it challenging to also see excessive or unnecessary packaging... because citrus comes with it's own packaging, for example - not sure why some places feel the need to then plastic wrap them...

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Tesh Burke 10/16/2020 4:54 AMMy concern is lack of education and action when it come to sustainability. This issue is so important that it should be required in all schools just like reading. Even in higher education Sustainability should be a required class. We now when humans are educated they will demand change. It's only then we will be able to save our Planet.
