Dionne Carloni 10/28/2020 3:06 PMI completed my waste audit today! In the last 3 weeks I had 7.8lbs of trash (does not include recycling of compost). It was not as much as I expected initially, but if I did the math right that would mean I'm generating one TON of trash every 14.8 years - and that's just me, one person on a "good" week - potentially 5.5 TONS in a lifetime. If you multiply it by the population of the US, that would be 70,980 TONS PER DAY, and I'm sure I'm on the low side. Very eye opening. -
Dionne Carloni 10/27/2020 3:50 PMWe're in the home stretch, just a couple more days!! Challenge ends THIS Wednesday. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Dionne Carloni 10/27/2020 3:44 PMA sustainable society is one that ensures the health and vitality of life. Our country has had a terrible history of obstructing this to ensure personal gain. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Engage In Active ListeningWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?
Dionne Carloni 10/27/2020 3:17 PMI very much enjoyed active listening. It was refreshing to turn off my internal thoughts and focus on the what someone else is saying and keeping it on them with questions to dig deeper. I feel like it was appreciated from the person I was speaking with, plus it helped me retain a lot more information too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Dionne Carloni 10/27/2020 3:11 PMFast fashion has been a challenge for me in the past because I love a good price or sale. I think starting to minimize what I own has made me a lot more thoughtful about anything new I have and made me realize that personal style is different than being trendy, so if you invest in items that match your personal style you can have less but get more out of it while still expressing yourself. -
Dionne Carloni 10/25/2020 8:53 PMHopefully everyone had a chance to go outside and see the fall colors this weekend... it's beautiful until I need to rake :) -
Dionne Carloni 10/24/2020 3:50 PMThe research i did looking into the impacts of the fashion industry will certainly help me rethink any upcoming purchases... I thought this video did a decent job of summarizing some of the points but doesn't go into the manufacturing conditions which is another area of concern. In case anyone else is interested: https://youtu.be/elU32XNj8PM-
Nancy Hoban 10/25/2020 2:05 PMI too watched this video and was surprised by the makeup of clothing. I had no idea that polyester was so unkind to the environment!

Dionne Carloni 10/23/2020 8:37 AMThe weather this weekend looks perfect to complete some of my one-time actions: do some research, watch some documentaries. The challenge ends on Wednesday, so plan accordingly. Have a great weekend!! -
Dionne Carloni 10/22/2020 5:13 AMI started listening to the podcast Armchair Expert to get away from screens and other than the advertising I really like it! Learning a lot about people and things I never knew I wanted to know more about.
