How does being playful with others enrich your life?

    Angel Daniel's avatar

Being playful with others gives me a refreshing break from reality and helps me enjoy life's sweeter moments. Whether it's playing animal crossing with my nephew who is across the US, dressing up to go to the Renaissance Festival, or even just a simple game of dominos, it helps me find balance.

    Water Fix Leaky Faucets
Fixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency in other ways?

One of our toilets had a slow drip coming out the back bolt, this eventually led to me discovering a massive puddle. We made the decision to replace the entire toilet as it was probably over twenty years old. Little did we realize that toilets now are much more water efficient, compact and cheap! We have replaced one out of three toilets and plan to have the others replaced by the end of the year.

Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

    Angel Daniel 10/28/2020 8:11 AM
I live right by a creek that can rise to about 7-9 feet of water when there's a flash flood. At its worst, the creek overflowed and swept down our entire side yard taking with it our cable box, plants and even some construction equipment that was 1/2 a mile up stream. There was so much debris and even some dead fish in the yard and sidewalk. This made me realize just how much pollution can easily get swept up and deposited back into our water supply if not disposed of properly.

What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

The future is what inspires me to act on sustainable energy and energy issues. We have to sustain or find alternate resources for ourselves so that we can ensure a better tomorrow for future generations.

I got eaten up by mosquitos this weekend and was thinking of a eco-friendly way to address the problem rather than calling up Mosquito Squad. I noticed there are a ton of bats around at night so I looked up the benefits of a bat box and learned that a single bat can capture 500 - 1,000 mosquitoes in an hour! (Plus maybe some guano for the garden) Definitely putting up a bat box next year in the yard!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

    Angel Daniel's avatar
    Angel Daniel 10/28/2020 7:31 AM
We should advocate for our transportation systems by keeping them clean. This weekend I picked up a large amount of trash around a local bus stop nearby. We should keep these areas clean to give a better sense of value and purpose.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Angel Daniel's avatar
    Angel Daniel 10/28/2020 7:25 AM
Fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions are the main reasons I wish to switch to a hybrid/electric vehicle. Heavily leaning toward a Hybrid Subaru Crosstrek in the near future!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

    Angel Daniel's avatar
    Angel Daniel 10/28/2020 7:21 AM
Fresh seasonal food and supporting local businesses and farmers inspires me to utilize our local CSA!

    Health Know My Health
How do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?

    Angel Daniel's avatar
    Angel Daniel 10/28/2020 7:19 AM
I exercise outside when I need to relieve physical stress, like going for a hike in the woods. For emotional stress, I usually play my violin. In regards to helping others, I check in with others whether through email, text, or hand written letter, engage in active listening, and offer a hand when appropriate.
