Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Do at Home

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 container(s) out of the landfill each day.

COMPLETED 17
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Do at Home

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

I have taken some time to day for reflection as this is the final day of the challenge. I have been able to take time over the past couple weeks to reevaluate my choices and make small (but very impactful) changes to my lifestyle. I feel better overall with these changes, and there have been no real inconveniences as a cause/effect relationship to making them. I feel better with my mental health since starting this challenge. Taking time each day to just do something I enjoy, whether be it outside, with my fiancé, through meditation, etc., I believe that I have begun a journey to real personal growth with these minor changes. Thank you to everyone on my team for the ongoing support as we have gone through this challenge together!

I have enjoyed participating in this challenge immensely! I know that my impact has been made, and my knowledge has truly grown so high from this. I will continue to complete these tasks even when I am no longer logging them each day! This has been a truly fulfilling few weeks, and I cannot wait to participate again next year!

I needed to take some time away from my office space and/or bedroom at home, but still had schoolwork and class today. I took a little trip to the local park and completed my afternoon class and my schoolwork sitting in the park with natural lighting and the cool breeze. This was a great thing for my mental health, but it also allowed me to turn off all the lights in my house and appreciate the natural lighting more!

For some, today is very affecting for mental health after yesterday's SCOTUS news. Take a few moments for yourself with some meditation or doing a small task that you really enjoy. Step outside, listen to your favorite song, call a friend and talk for a few minutes. Do something that benefits you and your health.

It's the last day everyone, but don't let your sustainable efforts end here! We can continue to make an impact through these small acts and changes we are making each day!

Looking for an extra sustainable effort for this rainy Monday (depending on your area)? Use a bucket or other larger container to collect the rain water throughout the day! *Hint: place your container at the bottom of your drain spouts if possible.

I use the collected rain water to water the plants in the days after the rain, to use for cleaning the exteriors of my house windows, and for any other uses for water outdoors when possible. It really helps to save from running more water.

When I traveled out yesterday to complete some grocery shopping errands I had to do, my partner and I focused on purchasing products that were environmentally friendly in their packaging, what the products were, and if they were fair trade certified products or not. These choices are very important for us, and these differences are crucial for the environment and our planet!
