REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Raelynn Henson 10/14/2020 4:26 PMI ran into this issue just yesterday. What I came up with was to position the unbagged produce in my cart on top of some other (safe!) items. Since I thoroughly wash all produce before using it, this was acceptable. I'll have to give more thought to how to purchase bulk items (nuts, dried fruit, legumes) without a bag. The virus restrictions do make it more difficult.-
Jenine Gomez 10/20/2020 9:17 AMA while back my husband and I purchased reusable mesh bags for produce. I keep them in my regular "bag of bags" for shopping. Other than small seeds and spices, we use them for everything. No plastic needed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Raelynn Henson 10/14/2020 4:22 PMThis practice causes one to be on the lookout for the next recipient of thanks -- and that's a natural uplift. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for using every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable (including the skins, tops, stalks, etc.) during your next meal prep?
Raelynn Henson 10/14/2020 4:20 PMThe little bits of vegetable that I put in the compost bin are being "used" when we spread the resulting compost on our garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Raelynn Henson 10/12/2020 5:06 PMIt's the truth! I feel so much better after adjusting my diet to include lots of whole plants.
