I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
Do at Home
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 1 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
Do at Home
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Community
Engage In Active Listening

USED COOKING OIL RECYCLE

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Alina Mihaela Popescu 10/28/2020 12:52 PMI use plastic bags, that could be replaced with cotton bags, that can be reused. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Alina Mihaela Popescu 10/28/2020 12:51 PMPollution, chemicals. Use fewer chemicals and try natural detergents and reduce pollution -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Engage In Active ListeningWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?
Alina Mihaela Popescu 10/28/2020 12:46 PMPaying more attention to details and to people's reactions. Be more attentive to my state of mind and what do I show to others -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work From HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. How have you used technology to replace in-person meetings or work this year?
Alina Mihaela Popescu 10/11/2020 11:44 PMI am working from home since the beginning of the pandemic, it's been 7 months, in which I replaced in-person meetings with virtual calls. I also saved 2 hours/day by not taking the subway to the office. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Sign Up to VoteWhy is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?
Alina Mihaela Popescu 10/11/2020 11:41 PMI think each one of us can make a change, by voting. Voting for me means to speak up for the change that I want to see in the future. It is about everything. From choosing our leaders, who to represent us, to the infrastructure and investments that are being made, to education and the mindset that is spread among us. This is a moment when we can bring value to our lives and to our children's lives. I think that we all have to answer to this question: "What kind of life do you want to live?"
