I did more related to social justice for this EcoChallenge and learned a lot.  I plan to find a way to volunteer more regularly to help disadvantaged minorities.  This website is a good resource to find local organizations:  https://www.actlocal.network/directory
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, school, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 6:11 PM
I can carpool more often with colleagues to work and use car shares when my bike isn't a good option.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 6:07 PM
I try to buy most of my clothes from secondhand stores or get them free from clothing exchange parties, which are a really fun and no cost way to try new clothes and fashions!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 6:06 PM
Plastic pollution is a huge issue for ocean life due to the fish and birds eating the plastic particles, which can kill the animals or release toxins into them that end up in the human food chain.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 6:01 PM
I like to buy from farmer's markets and go to local farms, when possible.  It's good to support our local farmers from a social and environmental perspective, since it reduced GHG emissions and contributes to a thriving community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Energy Invite a Friend to Calculate the Carbon Footprint of their Household
What kinds of discussions did you have, or are you hoping to have with friends about climate change?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 5:59 PM
I discussed the result of calculating my carbon footprint with some family members and plan to post my actions on social media
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Offset for Climate Justice
What did you learn from the resources? What did you discover from the offset calculator?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 5:58 PM
I learned that there are still sources of ozone depleting substances, such as building insulation foam and refrigerators, that are leaking large amounts into the atmosphere.  The offset calculator showed the impact of my household, which I plan to try to reduce and then offset.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Donate to or Volunteer for Low-Income Solar Initiatives
Equitable access, environmental justice and creating employment opportunities are just a few advantages of low-income solar programs. Can you think of other benefits that could come from initiatives like this? Which advantages of low-income solar do you find the most compelling?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/28/2020 5:50 PM
In addition to the social benefits, low-income solar will help reduce GHG emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Host a Watch Party
What did you learn about in the documentary you watched? How did it make you feel?

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/27/2020 10:47 AM
I learned more about the oppression of women from watching the documentary "RBG" and it made me feel sad but also inspired by what RBG did to fight for rights for everyone.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Jennifer Reece's avatar
    Jennifer Reece 10/27/2020 10:44 AM
