I chose the toilet tank bank action this year because I bought a new low flush toilet. Instead of spending money and buying a specially made item, I filled up one of my glass bottles with water and set it in the tank.

Forgiveness is not for the other person it is always for you--to set yourself free. We all have enough trouble to handle in our daily lives so why carry around the extra burden of resentments and hurts?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

It can be so easy to be discouraged and defeated if we just look at our circumstances. I just had a major disappointment last week but stopped myself and listed the things that I did have that I was grateful for.

Once I really started paying attention a few years ago to what we're doing to this planet, I realized that no matter how small the steps I could take, I have a personal responsibility to take them.

New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I really was amazed at how little trash I had to take to the curb once I started composting. I use a commercial service so all my Kleenex and paper towels go in the compost bin also. I have a myriad of allergies, so I go through A LOT of Kleenex.

We had our first hard freeze and it sure was cold yesterday morning. I'm so grateful to have a car to run errands, it lives in a garage, I don't have to go outside to get in the car, I don't have to manually lift the garage door. It's a good way to start the day and then I had a fantastic orange sun to watch when I started out. Wonderful!

Here's an interesting article about the Arctic Sea not freezing yet this late into October.

Another fire in Colorado in the headlines today. I was listening to a podcast the other day about our lack of good forest management in the US and how not clearing undergrowth is a big part of the problem. I used to go up to Itasca State Park in Minnesota every year and they always did controlled burns to clear the undergrowth. You can see the fire damage where a fire swept through Preacher's Grove decades ago and the pines are scarred but still alive. If you clear the undergrowth, the fire can sweep through instead of lingering while it burns up all the extra fuel.
