I can think about the four R's before making a purchase.  I can also consult with neighbors about trading unused items and food to reduce waste and the need to purchase new items.

Food Try a New Way to Prep

Eating local and eating environmentally conscious are always food choices that do more good and less harm. Personally, I am vegan and I have been trying to utilize access to local farmers in my community through the farmers market hosted at the park. Going vegan is not something everyone can do, but occasionally eating produce grown locally definitely does more good and less harm!

    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

Talking to my local farmers today at the farmers market allowed me to learn about the different certifications Missouri farmers can get to show that they don't use harmful pesticides on their produce and that they are taking care of the land they use. Being more aware of the impact the food you are buying has on the environment is a great advantage to help you make more educated decisions while shopping!

    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

Simply buying all new items is the least creative way to simplify, so creativity is required to go beyond what is easy or requires less time. Repurposing, trading, and second hand purchasing are ways to limit the consumption of new items.

    Community Sign Up to Vote
Why is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?

Voting is often our only voice, although the Electoral College is a threat to fairness within our voting system.  Educating ourselves on the voting issues, listening to others' perspectives and needs, civil disobedience, and altering purchasing habits are ways that can create positive change.
