Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Do at Home
I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Nature
Tend a Garden
Do at Home
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Energy
Reduce Washing Appliances
I will wash my laundry on the weekends to reduce the amount of energy the washer and dryer use. I will run the dishwasher when it is fully loaded. These will reduce the amount of energy my house uses each week.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
Do at Home
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Farrah Avender 10/27/2020 11:41 AMI can incorporate others R's in my lifestyle by having an open mind when throwing something out or when something is broken.-
Farrah Avender 10/27/2020 11:44 AMI know that the production of fabric causes a lot of air and water pollution so as one solution, when I outgrow my dresses I wear them as skirts and then when they are too small I pass them down to other girls I know to keep the reuse chain going.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Farrah Avender 10/06/2020 12:30 PMA barrier of using a reusable water bottle is that you have to keep it clean. I could make this a habit by washing my cup every night before I got to bed so it will be ready to use the next day.
