REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/26/2020 7:11 PMWhen there is diversity in thinking it always helps the collective cause better than a single view. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Engage In Active ListeningWhat was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/21/2020 10:48 AMWhen I actively listened it was different, I started understanding the other person's perspective more than rethinking my own thoughts and putting a spin on their thoughts are with my own words.
I choose a method I recently learned in. Women's workshop to start noticing the first and last word of every sentence the other person says. If you do that you will slowly realize how much you are "listening" vs "hearing". -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/21/2020 10:45 AMThe native culture is based on nature and keeping it in balance helps earth as much as it helps their future. They understood their land as they are from this land. Everytime I read about them I feel really sad and horrible that people who came to this land now make natives look like some poor trine at the mercy of government. Even countries that were colonized had a better outcome than that. :( This should change for the better and for the betterment of our world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/17/2020 6:59 PMI tend to notice different things, like side walks missing in certain areas, how folks who use public transport always walk that last mile to their home and how the trees and other facilities help or hinder them. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Go for a Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/17/2020 6:53 PMWalking help me think about things in my mind. It is the time I don't do anything else but just take in nature and connect internally. It helps me like meditation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Priya Balasubramanian 10/17/2020 6:47 PMWith this being fall, it is infact an enjoyable experience being outside. Everytime I go out, though it is the same park or street or trail that I have been before, I always find it refreshing with the colors changing each day. -
