Yael's actions
Food
Reduce Animal Products
Do at Home
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nature
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join an outdoor restoration project in my community while observing best practices in my region for not spreading COVID-19.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 3 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Do at Home
I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
Do at Home
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
Do at Home
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Yael Barak 10/18/2020 11:25 PMThe biggest hurdle to stop using disposable cups is while traveling - as there are simply no means of washing reusable cups properly when you're on the road for 2 weeks. Luckily, with Corona that's not such an issue anymore as I don't travel... I guess there's some advantage in anything :-)

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Yael Barak 10/14/2020 10:40 PMI use mostly plastic bags when purchasing something "on the go". I bought a small fabric shopping bag that folds into my bag and use it instead
