Rebeca's actions
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Support Native Communities
Do at Home
I will use the resource links provided and spend 15 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary Experiences
Do at Home
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Offset for Climate Justice
Do at Home
Greenhouse gases found in old refrigerants are up to 10,900 times more potent than carbon dioxide. I will help eliminate these gases through the purchase of offset credits to ensure we all have a planet we can thrive on.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
Do at Home
I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
Do at Home
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Rebeca Barrios-Torres 10/19/2020 8:23 AMAs someone who buys coffee from various coffee houses, it is hard to remember to take a cup with me. Covid 19 makes it even more difficult as most places I frequent are drive thru. I need to rethink this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Offset for Climate JusticeWhat did you learn from the resources? What did you discover from the offset calculator?
Rebeca Barrios-Torres 10/15/2020 8:41 AMThe offset calculator was a great source of calibration. What I thought it took to offset greenhouse gases vs what it actually took were way off. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn About Trans, Femme, and Nonbinary ExperiencesHow is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?
Rebeca Barrios-Torres 10/15/2020 8:39 AMEquity for trans, femme and nonbinary people is important to a just and sustainable society because it is inclusive and allows for a happy healthier life for them.
