  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

It was fun exploring my local area this past weekend, finding paths and neighborhoods that we had not explored before.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

I found one more statement that I converted to paperless.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

The 2 new trees I planted this summer are doing well.  Very happy about that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

There are many farms close to where I live, and many operate a farm stand, so we try to frequent them as much as possible.  Locally grown food and the farms are like a green space near where we live, helping to keep the environment cleaner that a developed area.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

I am only about 2-3 miles from the CT River and less than a mile from the Scantic River that flows into the CT River, so I am very aware that runoff in my neighborhood can make it to the CT River and then to Long Island Sound.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

We don't buy bottled water anymore - if you don't buy them, you likely won't use them.  We have reusable bottles, a plastic one by Nalgene for my wife and a stainless steel one for me.  We take these to the gym, on hikes and walks, at the beach, places like that.  No worries now about where to recycle the plastic disposable ones.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

Make it a habit to bring your reusable travel mug when you go out so you can avoid the paper cup at the coffee shop.
