REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Help OthersIn your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?
Anupras Burokas 10/09/2020 3:18 PMSocial inequalities can create an invisible barrier and separate/shrink the community. A strong and diverse community should not have any inequalities, and everyone should have the same say and right to participation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Anupras Burokas 10/09/2020 12:55 PMMeat (good quality meat) is a more premium good than non-meat options. Also non-meat options are more readily available in developing countries. In a good way, eating more meat provides us more protein and helps the economy (we drive up the demand by eating more). In a bad way, eating more meat will produce more animal byproducts (more demand = breed more animals), and can also contribute to various health diseases (cholesterol, fats, etc.) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Take ControlHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Anupras Burokas 10/09/2020 12:51 PMYour personal health depends on (and could not be greater than the health of) the community you are in, and the health of the community depends on (again, most likely is not greater than the health of) the environment around the community (and around you). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Anupras Burokas 10/07/2020 9:40 PMI try to combine my necessary trips into one. Instead of driving to the grocery store on a Saturday, I would drive to the store after work on a weekday (since it’s more convenient and on the way). Unless it’s absolutely necessary, I prefer not to take short trips. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Anupras Burokas 10/07/2020 9:38 PMThis can be true if you eat a lot of red meat or unhealthy/processed foods. It’s cheaper and better to pay the grocer/farmer for healthier and better quality food, than it is to worry about your health later down the road.-
Clémence Canet 10/08/2020 7:57 AMI agree 100%. Healthy raw produce cooked at home drastically reduce your fat (and its kind), sugar and salt intake all of witch, when in excess, are linked to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer at least.
