Selma's actions
Food
Reduce Animal Products
Do at Home
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Nature
Use wood to sequester carbon from the atmosphere
From house building materials to toothbrushes, I will choose wood over hard to recycle materials wherever possible. Wood sequesters carbon out of the atmosphere and can eventually be turned to wood chips that protect the soil from erosion and compost nicely.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk Outside
Do at Home
I will take a walk outside for 20 minutes each day.
Energy
Choose a thermally efficient house and also spread the word
Residential efficiency standards, such as Passivhaus and the like, are available that allow homes to be warm in winter and cool in summer with zero or close to zero energy input. No need to choose programmable thermostats or add insulation layers if dwellings are built according to such standards. Spread the word on them!
Food
Build a coop with 3 neighboring families
Have ultralocally sourced eggs, have the hens recycle food scraps that are not ideal for the composter, keep wild grass at bay, get garden fertilizer for free.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
Do at Home
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Energy
Organize a buyers pool for solar rooftop in my area
Put together a local group and organize a collective purchase of 100 solar rooftop installations in our area, with the technical support of our sustainable electricity cooperative.
Nature
Tend a Garden
Do at Home
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
