REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Paiden Castelblanco 10/21/2020 6:19 AMI agree with this quote because food is a direct impact on health which can affect someone's livelihood. Doctors should be paid of course, but we need to emphasize the people who work in jobs we take for granted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Paiden Castelblanco 10/13/2020 6:02 PMFood apartheid is in two forms from my understanding: lack of nutritious food and/or lack of funds for food. Studies have shown that with hunger impacts mood, in a way that incites an increased amount of violence. One can connect the dots on how crime could be increased as an effect of this. The people in power need to reinvest into food desert areas to support and sustain the health of marginalized communities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Research Voter SuppressionWhat are the ways in which voters are prohibited from or discouraged from voting in your region and/or state? What could be done to get rid of these barriers?
Paiden Castelblanco 10/12/2020 9:26 PMThe Monster Voting laws in NC were some nasty and very impressive pieces of recent voter suppression, and I believe that spreading awareness about these still existing barriers and then protesting them would create room for change.
