Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Do at Home
I will spend 60 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
Do at Home
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about systemic racism.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Healthy Sleep
Do at Home
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Energy
Install Alternative Energy
Do at Home
I will install an alternative energy system, such as solar electric systems or solar water heaters.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
Do at Home
I will replace 20 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Energy
Calculate the Carbon Footprint of my Household
Do at Home
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Forgiveness
Do at Home
I will begin, or continue, on the journey of forgiving myself and/or other(s). I may do this through journaling, meditation, prayer, and/or talking with a licensed healthcare professional.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Core Values
Do at Home
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
Do at Home
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 1 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
Do at Home
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 1 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Waste
Research Local Waste Sites
Do at Home
I will spend 180 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Health
Happiness
Do at Home
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

Linda DeLap 10/28/2020 5:17 PMI've done my easy things on most days---not a major achievement, but my awareness has increased. -
Linda DeLap 10/24/2020 6:22 PMFinally considered my core values. One is friendship/social connection. Will connect with my brothers. -
Linda DeLap 10/20/2020 10:14 AMI could have done more, but my schedule always seems to fill up. -

Linda DeLap 10/09/2020 2:00 PMToday is Day 3 of 21 in the People's Ecochallenge. Our congregation's team and the Delmarva Green Team (which includes Epworth Methodist, St. Peter's Episcopal, Seaside Jewish Center, and Unitarian Universalists of Southern DE) each have 18 members. They share the lead among UU (or part-UU) teams for number of participants. Note: Beacon Unitarian's team has 12 members. Thanks go to Gabor for pointing this out. -
Linda DeLap 10/07/2020 6:03 PMMy action was to thank someone by email, but tonight I had a chance to do it via Zoom. I expressed gratitude for Board members' resourcefulness and leadership under the difficult circumstances of this pandemic. -
Linda DeLap 9/26/2020 4:18 PMThe first action I've chosen is to adopt a daily gratitude practice for this stressful time.
