Eden's actions
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
Do at Home
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
Do at Home
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Go Paperless
Do at Home
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Do at Home
I will spend 20 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
Do at Home
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
Do at Home
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn It Off
Do at Home
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn It OffHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Eden Dusich 10/14/2020 12:06 PMCurrently, on the campus where I live, about half of the energy is generated by solar energy, and the rest is from fossil fuels. Having solar panels on campus to generate some of the school energy is great for the environment, as we are able to lessen the amount of energy generated from non-renewable energy sources. The energy provided from the solar panels ensures that no greenhouse gases will be emitted into the air. However, the other percent of energy being generated from fossil fuels is releasing those harmful gases that are damaging our environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Eden Dusich 10/07/2020 1:07 PMIndividuals living in richer countries consume much more meat as oppose to those living in other places. This is most likely due to the economic component meat poses to a country. However, this consumption of meat is extremely harmful to the environment. Lots of land is required to raise animals, which means trees must be cleared for fields. In addition, these animals produce excessive amounts of waste that end up polluting rivers and streams as a result of runoff.
