What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

The amount of single plastic we use because most “recyclable” plastic ends of in the landfill. The idea of recycling certain materials was a corporate ply to make the public believe that they are more earth friendly . It is important for people to educate themselves on the trash they are creating because it only ends up in the ocean, the landfill, or in the streets, which are all detrimental to their surroundings.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?

I use reusable lunch utensils and containers. Most importantly I use a reusable water bottle and tumbler.

It’s a daily reminder to be conscientious of other people and their experience. To know that others coexist in a world, allows for people to pay it forward and live, not only for oneself but for others.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health More Fruits and Veggies
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    catalina gutierrez 10/28/2020 12:48 PM
Reducing meat intake and increasing fruit and vegetable intake not only betters an individual’s health, but also reduces our carbon footprint. This healthy practice can be most beneficial to low income household and people of color that are historically known for having chronic diseases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce Refined Sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    catalina gutierrez 10/28/2020 12:45 PM
No, but I knew that i was consuming too much and I knew its impact. I cut back on refined sugars by eating more fruit and now i don’t “crave” sweets.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

No, they do not surprise me given the fact that I am an active participant within the infrastructure that sees its faults. The allocation of funds in transportation can improve different societal issues, such as the environment, job creation and more.
