Dave's actions
Energy
Power Down the Computer
Do at Home
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Turn It Off
Do at Home
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
Do at Home
I will enjoy 6 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Old Fences
A good friend replaced his old cedar fence this past summer and I took the wood and made some nice planer boxes
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 4 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
Do at Home
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
Do at Home
I will replace 10 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
Do at Home
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Dave Harris 10/08/2020 3:09 PMAlthough it is very proactive to reach out to the utility companies, our power company currently shares information about our usage in comparison with our surrounding neighbors. This past February we had a new security system installed in our home and the package included a Nest thermostat that has the ability to mimic our schedules and automatically adjusts the temperature - turning it down when we are away, and reacting to our presence as soon as we arrive home. No more wondering "did I remember to turn it down before we left home".
