How do you practice self care?

We religiously use a Google calendar at home to keep track of life, so putting in me time always feels great.  It could brunch with friends, massage or a 15 minute walk every day. The difference between knowing that I have a bit of me time and seeing it marked there on the calendar is somehow huge for me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Why is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?

Voting effects leadership who then has the power to impact the environment, trade and energy.
Helping others participate in the voting process is a tremendous honor, locally I support https://www.facebook.com/Parents2pollsTompkins/
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

This challenge has reminded me that appreciating nature or family isnt enough, we need to be their biggest fans.  Speak up and push boundaries to make sure that what we appreciate now isn't gone in the future. Whether that means environmental activism, access to affordable healthcare, or something else, it's important to go just a little bit further, especially now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

being able to take time at lunch to walk leisurely around the neighborhood makes me truly appreciate how grateful I am to have a job that allows this, a safe neighborhood, and warm house to come back to. Recognizing and appreciating even small things goes a long way.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

I love using our local producers for goods and services. We shop at our farmers market regularly and are also members of multiple CSAs, including vegetables, bread and meat. Buying locally, I personally know the people that I am buying from, their farming practices and that makes me happy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Online Energy Audit
What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?

We had the pleasure of an in person energy audit with a local company, Snug Planet. We learned quite a bit about our home, how it was insulated, where the issues were, and how we could easily make them better. It was a free service, and well worth the few hours of time.
We plan to have extra insulation placed in our ceiling before winter.

we are slowly renovating one owner 50's ranch so every single thing we do ups the energy efficiency a little, from smart lights and heat to new windows and doors. Our hope is that one day, it'll be as up to date and eco-friendly as we can make it.

We are super lucky to be part of a community solar farm, and use solar energy to offset our electrical usage. I recommend it!

    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

I think being home and having more time indoors, away from friends, stores, etc has boosted creativity for so many, and brought back simplicity in the home. We make due with what's available, bake bread not buy, get creative with WFH set ups and "offices"
