REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Go for a Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Deborah Kim (Ecochallenge.org Staff) 10/28/2020 3:40 PMIdeally I'd like to take a walk in the middle of the day or during my lunch break to recharge, but these days I find myself walking at the close of the day, with the late afternoon light. I usually walk with my dog, and it can be really lovely to smell the air and be mindful of my senses and where we are in the world; to leave the work day behind, re-center, and appreciate our neighborhood. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Deborah Kim (Ecochallenge.org Staff) 10/28/2020 3:32 PMBalance is crucial because without it, one thing overtakes the others, like the balance of prey and predators in wildlife. In our modern world, many factors have upset the balance of nature — extracting resources, polluting, over-producing and over-consuming, logging rainforests... Respect and stewardship of the land are key parts of indigenous and Native cultures, taking no more from the land than you need, and honoring its gifts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-CompassionHow can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?
Deborah Kim (Ecochallenge.org Staff) 10/28/2020 3:27 PMNurturing my Self-Compassion brings awareness to the relationships I have with others, and how important kindness is — paying attention, being gentle, and practicing care. Even though I wasn't able to find time for this every day, I'm grateful to have learned this type of meditation and hope I can practice it more often!
