Joe's actions
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 4 container(s) out of the landfill each day.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 6 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Do at Home
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
Do at Home
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Energy
Support Resilient Powergrids
Do at Home
A community can be brought to its knees without dependable power, often affecting the most vulnerable. I will write 1 letter(s) or email(s) per day to a public official or company to advocate for a more resilient power grid (e.g. microgrids, solar+storage).
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
Do at Home
I will replace 6 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Joe Lobbato 10/11/2020 11:03 AMMost of my trips are out to the river to go fish, when I go to the store I typically walk and only buy a few products a trip so I can carry them home, it takes me around an hour to do and it allows me to get out of my house and enjoy nature.-
Nzitonda Nsengiyumva 10/23/2020 6:53 PMI love that. I usually go to stole by walking and enjoy nature too

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Support Resilient PowergridsWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for that vision to become reality?
Joe Lobbato 10/11/2020 10:57 AMMy vision for a sustainable community would be people using reusable bags and driving electric cars being the norm. I think there would have to be stronger regulations and policies in place to somewhat force people to reduce their footprint. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Joe Lobbato 10/08/2020 2:32 PMI typically have gotten straws with my drinks. Now I skip the straw, reducing my use of single-use plastics. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
