  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

I would have to chose equity, generosity, openness, and justice.

When I think of equity, I think of my strong belief that no one should be homeless or unable to go to the doctor. Everyone should be able to have access to food, water, and shelter.

When I think of generosity, I think of my belief that no one should have billions of dollars and not be helping charities or directly donating to people in need.

When I think of openness I think of creating a zone without judgement of others unless those others are infringing upon the rights of another.

Which brings me to justice, highlighting the fact that all people are people who deserve rights. I think of my strong belief that racism/homophobia/xenophobia/transphobia are not opinions but infringments upon the rights of minorities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Arin Lohr 10/15/2020 9:37 AM
Get second hand clothes! Frequent a thrift store! Buy from local sellers! Sew your own clothes!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?

I've started trying to repurpose disposable one use things that I can't control such as packaging I recieve in the mail. I also switched from disposable masks to reusable washable masks.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

Instead of asking for a bag when i got my food, I brought my own bag and declined the disposable one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Racial Injustice
What did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?

    Arin Lohr 10/15/2020 9:34 AM
I watched a few videos on implicit bias, microagressions, and unlearning racism. I learned that to progress we must be an actively anti racist society. I firmly believe this.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

As a pagan/wiccan I agree strongly with the importance of a connection and appreciation of nature. I want to continue strengthening my relationship with the earth and elements through my own spirituality.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Arin Lohr's avatar
    Arin Lohr 10/15/2020 9:27 AM
I don't have a car, so I bike everywhere. I find that I notice more nature, animals, bugs and plants in a good way. I also wave to people more and feel better about trips to and from class.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

We use too many paper plates at my house- we should get compostable ones or just used reusable dishes.
