Angela Main 10/25/2020 7:22 PMWe live in a disposable society. It's easier to throw things out than to fix them. We even give it a name - we call it recycling. -
Angela Main 10/24/2020 10:19 PMA article I read stated the following..."Just as it finally became clear that recycling is one of the top ways to help save the planet, the onset of the Coronavirus economy has pushed it way down on the list of priorities. But the pandemic may be creating a new urgency to not only recycle but re-purpose more materials." -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsWhere are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?
Angela Main 10/24/2020 10:15 PMSalem Lake is the largest natural body of water near me in Winston Salem, NC. Runoff's or moving water may strip nutrients from the soil and pick up pollutants, dirt, and other undesirables, flushing them into nearby bodies of water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degradation and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Angela Main 10/23/2020 11:56 AM"Climate change is an environmental justice issue because communities exposed to racial and class exploitation are suffering the most, with the least control over material resources." -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsSwitching out your lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Angela Main 10/23/2020 11:28 AMAnother way to protect the environment would be to recycle. We now have two large recycle cans as we try to recycle as much as possible in our home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Angela Main 10/23/2020 11:21 AMSome foods that I would like to preserve for our home would be tomato's and green beans! We recently received a starter bag of Amish Friendship bread and enjoyed the process of 10 days that it took to make it. The anticipation of getting to make the bread made it an enjoyable learning process for our whole family!
