TAKISHA's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
Do at Home
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper per day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided when I have to print documents.
Community
Support Comerica's National Day of Service
As an extension to Comerica's National Day of Service in September, consider conducting a virtual volunteer action that supports our communities. Since there are no organized in-person river, beach or lake clean-ups in most communities this year, if you would like, you can consider cleaning up around your house and neighborhood to support your local environment as neighborhood storm drains commonly drain to local water bodies. Please do not invite others outside of your household if you choose this action.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
Do at Home
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
TAKISHA MCCLAIN 10/27/2020 12:44 PMI have shown my coworkers the value of using double side printing and found that some did not know how to do it at all. Saving money and the Community. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
TAKISHA MCCLAIN 9/24/2020 2:47 PMIn the need to not use plastic bags, I ensure I keep my reusable bags in the vehicle trunk. There were times I failed to put them back and needed them, I just carried the items in my hands to the car.
I have since then, purchased more reusable bags. I have two sets that I can use. So if one is left at home, I have a back up set.
Just try a different method to successfully create a habit to not use plastic bags.-
Mari-Lynn Flaig 9/25/2020 6:13 AMI keep a box in my car in the hatch, where the bags usually are. The box is for if I forget, I cart the stuff to the car, then load the box. I find myself using the box more than the bags lately.

TAKISHA MCCLAIN 9/24/2020 2:25 PMI am so excited to start the Ecochallenge. I participated on last year and learned so much during the time frame. I even continue to use some of the challenges that I learned. This is not just a brief challenge, but life long challenges that help the environment.
