Kristen Molnar 10/28/2020 6:11 AMGrateful again to have had the opportunity to participate in this event. It's a reminder that small actions by everyone results in big results for the world. We have the opportunity to do something meaningful and lasting for generations to come and for those with no choices. It reaffirms my dedication to environmental activism. -
Kristen Molnar 10/23/2020 8:20 AMIt's going well. Every year that I do this, it reminds me of the simple ways I can make a significant impact on my lasting impressions on this earth. Not taking a straw when I go through drive thru might seem like a small action but collectively, over time, this simple act will have a positive impact on our oceans. Can you imagine the profound impact it would have if we ALL did that? I know we can :-) -
Kristen Molnar 10/21/2020 11:13 AMIt's going ok- keep forgetting to log in over the weekend. Have been having issues with Internet Explorer but tried Chrome today and am finally able to write a comment! Going to try to finish strong :-) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Kristen Molnar 10/21/2020 11:11 AMBuy resale! Go to resale stores or use online resale shops to prevent textile waste from entering the landfills. Shop American made retailers so I know the production was done in a safer environmental way and the workers are paid a more fair way with benefits than other countries pay their workers. Or just flat out not buy new clothes- work on communication skills or start creative writing to express myself or get involved in social justice organizations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Kristen Molnar 10/14/2020 10:06 AM
We need to focus on recycling water; when I was in high school one of my friends' parents had a really old washing machine that had an option to divert rinse water into a tub so it could be used for the next load's wash cycle. I thought that was brilliant! We need to demand better options from the manufacturers for more eco friendly ways to conserve water!

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Take ControlHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Kristen Molnar 10/09/2020 7:12 AMWhen we are well, as individuals and as a community, we participate and contribute as productive members of our families, our jobs, and our communities. If we are well, we do not spread disease and can positively influence those around us (ie. vaccines create herd immunity and protect those most vulnerable and/or unable to get vaccinated such as infants or immunocompromised individuals). Making sure that everyone has the same opportunities to live in a safe and healthy environment should be a concern of everyone; sick people affect all of us both in terms of quality of interactions but also in the resultant higher cost of health care. -
Kristen Molnar 10/07/2020 6:09 AMI joined the challenge because I believe in it. I chose the actions I did because they're personal to me; I believe that change has to mean something to you as an individual because it will be easier to alter your behaviors if you're invested in the reason behind the change. -
Kristen Molnar 10/07/2020 6:05 AMI chose to learn about sustainable fashion for one of my goals; ironically, one of my sisters sent me a website for rothys.com. They're a company that takes plastic bottles and turns them into shoes, fashion handbags, and face masks. The great thing about their products is they're machine washable! So in terms of the pandemic and trying to maintain some sense of cleanliness while attempting to be fashionable, you can use a very nice looking bag and clean it on a regular basis while helping to repurpose plastic bottles. Great for vegan and vegetarians, too, since it is man made material :-)
