Abby Morgan 10/14/2020 7:22 PMI feel more motivated to eat plant-based meals because of this challenge. It's helping me go the extra mile to make sure I'm not using dairy products in my meals. -
Abby Morgan 10/09/2020 5:55 PMToday I found time in between studying to walk for just fifteen minutes, and I love the effect it has on my mood. I feel more energetic and happy. :) -
Abby Morgan 10/08/2020 6:21 PMBeing outside and active felt great today! It ended up being much sunnier than expected which was a great surprise. I'm feeling more empowered to stick to my goals with the check-ins from EcoChallenge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?
Abby Morgan 10/08/2020 11:04 AMI agree with Berry; humans are meant to bask in nature and celebrate it. I feel most connected with the planet when I'm outside with the sun on my face. In many ways, I have lost connection with the planet, as I focus on my phone and computer and forget about the world outside my home. -
Abby Morgan 10/07/2020 3:11 PMSo far I'm excited by all the potential sustainable actions I can take every day! I hope to learn a lot from this challenge :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Abby Morgan 10/07/2020 2:57 PMI love walking and biking in nature and around my neighborhood, especially with people I love. I also enjoy yoga because I feel more in tune with my emotions and spirituality. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Abby Morgan 10/07/2020 2:54 PMMeat takes a huge amount of resources to produce, and it's more achievable for developed countries as they have more wealth. Eating meat is eating high on the food chain. Eating higher up means more wasteful heat is produced. Animals produce CO2 and methane, which is contributing to climate change and affecting everyone. Eating large amounts of meat is not sustainable, as it uses too many resources and contributes too much pollution for our earth to withstand. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Abby Morgan 10/07/2020 1:43 PMA sustainable water future looks like people ditching their lawns for native plants and conserving water in many ways. We all need to learn the importance of water and understand how to conserve water by turning it off when it’s unnecessary. More incentives should be put in place by the government, and households should measure their use and save as much as possible. We take water for granted in the rainy PNW, but really we should be working hard to conserve.
