Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/24/2020 11:13 AM
Cutting back on paper mail makes me feel like I'm on the right track towards environmental responsibility. Now, I must be aware of how we use paper, modify the behavior of the excessive use of paper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Launch a Recycling Program
How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/23/2020 4:53 PM
Big problems require innovative and creative solutions to find effective alternatives that can help a community improve its living conditions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Improve a Bus Stop
How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/22/2020 11:46 AM
The transportation system in my country is not efficient. It is mainly based on individual transportation in motor vehicles. I would advocate for the promotion of bicycle transportation as one of the alternatives to improve the transportation system, and at the same time, the health of citizens and the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Join a Local CSA
Dependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/21/2020 10:12 AM
Some of the benefits of local food systems that motivate me are supporting local farmers and building resilient communities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Eco-Friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/20/2020 9:19 AM
The most important water concerns that we have in our country are the maintenance of the reserve systems.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Install Alternative Energy
How is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/19/2020 9:02 AM
My region has a hotter climate due to climate change. I understand that in the future this climate change should increase the frequency of drought cycles that have already begun to occur.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Join My Neighborhood Association
How can your community support inclusive decision making?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/18/2020 4:35 PM
My community can support inclusive decision making by encouraging participation in meetings that we hold periodically to discuss issues of interest.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/17/2020 10:08 AM
The closest natural water bodies are rivers that are next to the community where we live. I observe that when it rains very hard, the waters drag garbage into the river.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, school, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/16/2020 10:05 AM
My neighbor and I are going to use a single car for both of us to shop at the supermarket.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

    Zuleyka Ortiz's avatar
    Zuleyka Ortiz 10/15/2020 7:09 PM
I understand that in order to take care of our personal health it is necessary to attend to aspects of environmental health and community health.
