Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Do at Home
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate. I will keep 6 container(s) out of the landfill each day.

Compost Food Waste
Do at Home
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Sarah Schroeder 11/01/2020 9:26 PMThe number one thing I noticed in composting my food waste as opposed to just throwing it away, was how quickly the compost container was filling up and in turn, how much food waste we really throw away. Once my compost material is ready, I plan to use it as planting soil for the various plants I have in and around my house! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Sarah Schroeder 11/01/2020 9:22 PMBefore doing the EcoChallenge the single-use items I used regularly were that of plastic baggies and plastic food containers. In order to reduce these items I bought reusable bags to store food items in and packed my lunch in reusable containers each day.
