REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Kylie Scullion 10/18/2020 4:52 PMI check my email mostly to keep up with school assignments and events, so I reduced my time on email by only looking at it during certain times of the day. This helps me not be stressed about school and spend less time on email and my phone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn It OffHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Kylie Scullion 10/13/2020 11:28 AMI'm pretty sure most electricity is generated by fossil fuels in my area, but I did recently find out that you are able to switch your energy resources to renewables through your electrical company. It impacts the environment largely, because of the air pollution caused by the fossil fuels and most likely water pollution as well. It also affects humans a lot without them knowing, because air pollution is usually not visible to most people unless the factories and industries are right beside them. So, most people breathing in the pollution can have different health issues due to the air pollution without them knowing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in My CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Kylie Scullion 10/13/2020 11:25 AMI could help my community become more sustainable by having a community garden or even educating the public on the environmental issues in our region. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Kylie Scullion 10/13/2020 11:24 AMMeat is usually expensive and sometimes looked at as a high-end or fancy item for people. In society, steak and seafoods are looked at as a higher cost item and are usually apart of celebrations and aren't eaten all the time unless you can afford it. The higher costs for these foods causes them to be eaten in richer countries. They affect our planet because most meats are not eaten or created sustainably. There are many factory farms in the US and these have high meat production and usually don't have very sustainable and humane processes. These add high amounts of pollution to our atmosphere which contribute to climate change. They also have other environmental and ethical problems that many people do not recognize or research into when buying their meat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Kylie Scullion 10/13/2020 11:16 AMI think it is very true. Personally, I feel much better after spending time outdoors and doing some type of exercise too. I think it makes you feel better emotionally and physically and it is very good for your health to even get some fresh air. Cultures that spend most time outdoors would most likely be much healthier than a culture that spends time inside whether they are working, on their electronics, or just laying around. Going outside is necessary and definitely helps everyone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Kylie Scullion 10/13/2020 11:13 AMI could take shorter showers and try to spend more time outside than on electronics which would reduce my energy usage in the long run.
