REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
Christopher Selin 10/28/2020 6:34 PMBy limiting my email and social media checks to work or other scheduled times, I am less distracted and feel less guilty about being on my phone in front of my kids. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceHow might practicing work-life balance lead to a more sustainable life for yourself? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Christopher Selin 10/27/2020 6:41 PMI often find myself flip flopping between working unsustainably long hours and taking extended periods of time off to rebalance. Finding a way to maintain a more regular, balanced schedule would help me tremendously to avoid burnout. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Christopher Selin 10/27/2020 6:38 PMStaying local due to COVID has helped me see all that nature has to offer in my own back yard and when I spend time with my kids I see even more things that I would have normally noticed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Christopher Selin 10/27/2020 6:36 PMIt’s a luxury. Meat, especially beef one of the least sustainable foods, and I’ve actually grown to love impossible burgers! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce Refined SugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Christopher Selin 10/27/2020 6:34 PMYes, I know that I have strong cravings for sweets. I’ve done a sugar detox for a month in the last which was really hard but I learned a lot and have been able to eliminate a lot of extra carbs in my diet like bread, rice, and pasta. Once the initial withdrawal is out of the way I often feel the best I ever have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Learn About Constructive CommunicationHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
Christopher Selin 10/25/2020 6:18 PMBy having necessary conversations. Often it's easier to just avoid talking about loaded topics such as politics and climate change, but by learning how to talk in a constructive manner, we would all benefit. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Christopher Selin 10/13/2020 6:43 PMInstead of going to bed dreading the next challenge during these time, I reflect on the positive things in my life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Christopher Selin 10/12/2020 6:46 PMAdventure, honesty, presence, growth, compassion, resilience and courage. I've stumbled across values exercises from several different directions lately, a book I was reading, this eco challenge, and more so upon doing the exercise repeatedly, I was able to hone it down to 7. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Research Voter SuppressionWhat are the ways in which voters are prohibited from or discouraged from voting in your region and/or state? What could be done to get rid of these barriers?
Christopher Selin 10/09/2020 7:34 PMHaving just moved to New York I just barely made the deadline to register to vote after getting a new license. I can contact my representatives and encourage them to reduce or remove the lengthy restriction.
