Invite a Friend to Calculate the Carbon Footprint of their Household
Do at Home
Individual actions are important, but people and organizations working together can make a real impact. I will share a carbon calculator with a friend and invite them to calculate the carbon footprint of their household.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
Do at Home
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus to reduce pollution in the environment and in local communities.
Waste
Go Paperless
Do at Home
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Do at Home
I will spend 20 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Do at Home
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
Do at Home
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Energy
Calculate the Carbon Footprint of my Household
Do at Home
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
Do at Home
I will cook 5 meal(s) with zero-waste each day.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Healthy Sleep
Do at Home
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
Do at Home
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 4:37 PMThe people's eco-challenge is going very well and I think I am able to be more considerate and understand how to make choices that will benefit the enviornment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Invite a Friend to Calculate the Carbon Footprint of their HouseholdWhat kinds of discussions did you have, or are you hoping to have with friends about climate change?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 4:29 PMMy friends and I talked about our Carbon Footprint that was calculated and how it made an impact on the world and its overall climate. We discussed how our Co2 emission affected the world and how we could do simple things to reduce that very fact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Calculate the Carbon Footprint of my HouseholdAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 4:17 PMI did see many choices that I could make to ensure a lower carbon footprint number to better help the environment. Many choices such as driving individual cars less and car-sharing can help and make a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Prevent Recycling ContaminationWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 10:33 AMI have learned that many different resources are not recycled and many end up being put in the trash showing how they are just left to decompose and harm animals as well as nature. I can also see how the recycled material is often mixed with recycling which is harmful as this hurts the environment creating more waste. I think the hardest part about recycling is taking the time to separate waste and sort in the trash and recycle material. I also think some may find it hard to consider recycling as an option as many times, things end up simply just going in the plain trash. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 10:27 AMI can make the best of the clothes I have and customize clothes I already have to show creativity and my overall personality. Things like drawing or writing impactful messages on clothing can be a way to not use fast fashion and easily express yourself. Different personalized and DIY accessories could also be used such as handmaid earrings and necklaces which could also represent personalities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 10:24 AMI feel proud and am happy to be making a small contribution to help the growth of our environment. I think my efforts will go a long way and may even influence others to make eco-friendly choices and help keep our environment safe and growing. I will make all efforts to completely reduce my waste and try to reduce everything as much as possible and find other ways to use different items thought to be waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Anvi Shevade 10/26/2020 10:17 AMI think i am being more careful and considerate of what I am disposing of and if there is any other way I could reuse any material I might throw. The compost could come in handy for planting and gardening done to grow additional produce in the spring. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Anvi Shevade 10/24/2020 5:51 PMOne thing that concerns me the most is the easy-going mindsets of many beings and how so many aspects of the environment are deteriorating as a result of carelessness. The thing that I am most concerned is about how many cars are being used and how they are causing so much pollution. As industrialization keeps continuing, cars are being used more commonly, resulting in bad air quality and more carbon emission leading to pollution and the destruction of resources. Another issue I find very concerning is deforestation as we humans are ultimately killing trees that provide us the oxygen we live on. This concerns me as many animals are suffering and more pollution happens to result in global warming and once again, the destruction of many valuable and necessary resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Anvi Shevade 10/24/2020 5:34 PMI think eating more fruits and vegetables is a great way of good proteins, carbs, and necessary fats. The fruits and vegetables are also more eco-friendly as they are planted and farm-grown using natural resources. The cost to grow the fruits and vegetables is also quite small as there are fewer production issues and more benefits of fruits and veggies. Eating this type of fresh food is far much better than meat as it helps cut the cost of growing the animals and keeps animals safe from being cruelly harmed which is also eco-friendly -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Anvi Shevade 10/24/2020 5:29 PMI usually get around 7 hours of sleep which many times is less sleep for me. Though I do not feel sleepy or tired throughout the day, I think I need more sleep to perform my best and progress throughout the day. I would like to change my sleeping habits and get around 8-9 hours of sleep each night. I think after doing this on a daily basis, I will feel more active, refreshed, and will be healthy overall as this is the required amount of sleep form me.
