The ecochallenge has been a fun way to start off the school year with Green Team! It's super interesting to see my impact on the world just from completing a couple actions each day, and being apart of a team for my school is great because it's gotten more people to sign up and become more environmentally aware :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Ava Somera's avatar
    Ava Somera 10/22/2020 2:46 PM
I experience my neighborhood differently when walking instead of driving because I can enjoy being outside and interacting with other pedestrians instead of being in the car and not paying attention or noticing the little gifts nature gives
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn It Off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Ava Somera's avatar
    Ava Somera 10/22/2020 2:41 PM
Most of the electricity in California is generated from natural gas and coal. Both of these are fossil fuels so they negatively impact the environment but natural gas has lower global warming emissions than the coal.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Ava Somera's avatar
    Ava Somera 10/20/2020 12:56 PM
People in richer countries eat more meat because meat is more expensive and seen as a sign of wealth in some countries. However, eating more meat contributes to large emissions of CO2 so it damages our planet
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Ava Somera's avatar
    Ava Somera 10/20/2020 12:41 PM
You can take a walk with your family/pets or go for a run with your friend :)

What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

Other things to save energy and reduce my environmental footprint is turning off lights when they aren't necessary and walking/biking places instead of driving.
