  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? How can knowing their food producers enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

By knowing where the people who grew the food I'm eating, I feel more nourished, satisfied, and fulfilled in what I'm eating. Most of all I feel connected to the Earths systems in a special way I don't normally feel. Pure joy and happy belly is what I receive from food I processed myself. At Jeans Farm where I volunteer, we pressed apples from the tree into apple cider. This whole process of picking, cutting, grinding, pressing, drinking the cider and cleaning up afterwards felt perfectly splendid. I was fulfilled by the simplicity of the work while the reward is gold for the body. Recognizing the people in food production and volunteering to share part of their work is definitely going to motivate a person to advocate for farmers. Especially those working in big production farms as it is debilitating work. It can be endlessly stressful as their is endless jobs to be done. A farmer must work with seasonal and climate change as well to ensure their harvest rewards are effective.
