REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
mariah vaiza 10/28/2020 8:31 PMThe environment can be really great or bad for your health, it can be bad if our environment is unhealthy. It can be detrimental to our health if we have to inhale bad toxins that come from chemicals, landfills, or fires. -
mariah vaiza 10/28/2020 7:10 PMIt is the last day of the ecochallenge and I am super proud of this team! I have learned so much and am so grateful -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
mariah vaiza 10/28/2020 7:08 PMI think people in richer countries eat more meat because they have easier access to "good" quality meat. Eating more meat isn't good for our environment because it takes up so much energy and land and allows fats to go into our landfills and they don't break down well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
mariah vaiza 10/28/2020 7:03 PMFrom what I have learned, food sovereignty not only ensures that people get the food they need, it also builds on the idea that people need to assert themselves to reclaim their power in the food system and encourages people to rebuild their relationships their land. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
mariah vaiza 10/27/2020 5:43 PMI planted some mint seeds in two pots and have them on my windowsill, this way is easiest for me because it is the best way for me to remember to water them and for them to get light.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Research Restorative JusticeHow can Restorative Justice help foster the well-being of both people and planet?
mariah vaiza 10/27/2020 5:31 PMI think restorative justice can be a really amazing way to solve issues and it looks at the harm or crime as whole and hitting every part of the issue instead of just certain areas. At Sac State there is this program called the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) that uses the practice of restorative justice with African families, organizations, community groups and more in the US and Africa. They do this to educate and promote peace. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Research Local Waste SitesIn what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?
mariah vaiza 10/26/2020 9:58 PMI noticed many more lower income areas, but I also noticed an article about the Kiefer Landfill because they have guaranteed the best practices practiced there, which sounds really hopeful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Learn About Constructive CommunicationHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
mariah vaiza 10/26/2020 3:34 PMI think we all can benefit from constructive communication because it almost eliminates miscommunications, which causes many problems. I understand that many people have a hard time with communication but learning about constructive communication and slowly implementing it into our daily conversations, can be super helpful to both sides of the discussion. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
mariah vaiza 10/25/2020 4:19 PMLack of nutritious food in a community can lead to many health problems to the community members in the future, but having access to nutritious food allows a majority of the community members to become healthier and stronger as time goes by.
