REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go Get a Check UpHow do you practice self care?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/28/2020 11:18 AMSit, stretch, drink water or tea, eat fruit, breathe deep, work on a calming personal project, repeat ^_^ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My HealthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/28/2020 11:15 AMI have to remind myself that I am just one person. I acknowledge that there is only so much I can do by myself to help the people in my community and social circles, and sometimes, in the course of trying to help improve others' lives, I also require self-care. That being said, I find myself taking a lesson from "Pearls Before Swine" and finding my Internet Happy Box - which is to say, a place and/or activity, which is not online, and which also brings me joy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/28/2020 9:51 AMSpeaking from personal experience, I can't stand the smell of most standard household cleaning products, and I never could - I even dreaded opening the cabinet where I keep cleaning supplies, and actively found excuses not to clean, because of it. Once I learned that there were plenty of alternatives with fewer harsh chemicals, that changed everything. Do your research, experiment with different options, and above all TRUST YOUR SENSES. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn More about Food ApartheidWhat can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/19/2020 11:56 AMI read somewhere once something to the effect of, "Let food be your medicine." While food isn't necessarily intended to treat or cure any illness on its own, nutritious food has vitamins, fiber, protein and other good things that we really need in order to live well. Fast and processed stuff may be cheap and *edible,* but they're certainly not fit to live on, especially if we find ourselves paying extra for vitamin supplements. All communities everywhere deserve access to nutritious food by default. I almost wish I knew more about agricultural and supply chain economics... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Research Impact InvestingHow might impact investing help you better live your values?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/14/2020 4:43 PMSupposedly my investment firm added a filter for "Socially Responsible" companies, but I'm still not entirely sure what it means, or what to look for. I hope I can invest in companies that are trying to renew forests and water reclamation projects... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Rachel Wagstaff 10/14/2020 12:13 PMIt feels good to know that I'll be getting less junk mail. I even told my family members about the process of opting out. Mostly, it makes me think about informed consent, and that, in a perfect world - considering how much it costs to send physical marketing material - companies should not be permitted to send "blind" mailers... unless we each specifically opt in, as individuals, to receive marketing materials from companies that we trust NOT to sell our information without permission... because they shouldn't be allowed to. -
Rachel Wagstaff 10/06/2020 4:37 PMNot sure how much progress I'll be able to make, since I have a lot of deadlines coming up, but I'll give it a shot ^_^
