  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar

Nonviolence, honesty, and sustainable social justice. Nonviolence comes from my faith of Quakerism and is at the root of my social beliefs. I value honesty personally in my relationships, because it is necessary to protect oneself and others.  I combined two values for sustainable social justice because you can't have social justice without climate/environmental justice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

    Rose Wetzel 10/26/2020 8:10 PM
Balance is inherent to sustainability because a system that uses resources in excess is unsustainable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-Compassion
How can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/26/2020 7:58 PM
I use self-compassion to handle my anxiety and perfectionism, which often cause me to self-doubt. This can be damaging when voiced to myself and others, so channeling healthier thoughts instead gives me more energy for things that matter.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/26/2020 7:53 PM
Food sovereignty aims to return to more localized food systems, which are healthier for people and the environment in so many ways.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Forgiveness
How has the process of forgiving, or contemplating forgiveness, benefited you?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/25/2020 8:43 PM
By starting to forgive myself I've been able to recover my relationships with other people and spend more of the healthy alone time I need with myself.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/12/2020 8:33 PM
Turn off lights around the house, invest in "smarter" appliances, charge phone/laptop during the day instead of overcharging at night, spending less time ON appliances to save battery, fly less (easy during covid lol), bike/walk instead of driving.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/11/2020 5:30 PM
It helps me realize my privilege and how I'm fortunate in a positive way that gets me focused on how I can give back without giving too much of myself.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Disconnect from Email
Notice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/11/2020 2:15 PM
When I spend less time checking during times I could rest or times I should be doing other things, I actually have more time to plan things out and feel less stressed and more accomplished later.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Rose Wetzel's avatar
    Rose Wetzel 10/08/2020 4:05 PM
I like walking because I notice so much more, and the fresh air is so beneficial after spending so much time inside with virtual learning etc.
