REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Research Voter SuppressionWhat are the ways in which voters are prohibited from or discouraged from voting in your region and/or state? What could be done to get rid of these barriers?
Coleman Young 10/22/2020 9:13 AMAccess to voter education and polling locations is a major problem. I did like that Multnomah county mailed out a voter brochure this year although I wish that it was done in a more environmentally conscious way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Coleman Young 10/22/2020 9:10 AMBalance is crucial in maintaining our natural resources. The top three resources that are currently in a state of unbalance are water, oil, and natural gas -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Family Game HourHow does being playful with others enrich your life?
Coleman Young 10/14/2020 10:46 AMBeing playful with others allows you to connect with them on a deeper level and grow your relationship. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Watch a Documentary about Racial InjusticeWhat did you learn about racial injustice in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of sustainability?
Coleman Young 10/14/2020 10:45 AMI learned that one of the most important things we can do is to listen and understand the injustices that minorities endure. If we understand their struggles then we are better equipped to enact lasting change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Learn About Constructive CommunicationHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
Coleman Young 10/14/2020 10:42 AMNow more than ever people need to learn how to have constructive communication with each other. We can't fix any issues if we don't talk about them with the people around us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Coleman Young 10/14/2020 10:40 AMOne environmental factor that has recently contributed to my health has been the smoke from the wildfires. Environmental issues affect everything including food, water sources, air quality, and much more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Coleman Young 10/10/2020 9:10 AMWalking it more about the journey than the destination. You get to notice more of the unique things around you when you walk such as cool street art or a funky looking tree. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Coleman Young 10/08/2020 1:30 PMRicher countries have more resources to afford the mass production of meat. While this industry does provide jobs, (I grew up on a farm) it's terrible for the environment. I have cut by my red meat consumption down to only two meals a week. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Coleman Young 10/08/2020 1:26 PMHiking always helps me disconnect from my phone and appreciate what's around me. It's a great feeling to not be constantly looking at a screen. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Coleman Young 10/08/2020 1:24 PMOften all the paper mail I receive goes straight into the recycling. Making sure that I don't receive that mail in the first place will save energy and paper.
