DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Compost Pet Waste

Pet waste and plastic bags take up a lot of space in landfills. Dog waste doesn't decompose the same way that food waste does the plastic bags we usually put it in don't decompose at all. A way to help with the plastic would be to use compostable or biodegradable bags. However, one step further is to compost pet waste entirely. There is a local company in Portland who will pick up your dog waste for a fee and compost it.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Locally-Sourced Meals
If you were to only eat what is in season locally from now on, what would be the most difficult food item for you to give up? Why?

Since quarantine began, we've been sourcing 95% of our produce from a local farmstand. So far, I have noticed that I can't get all of the vegetables I might want but it hasn't been bad. I think that mushrooms would be the most difficult thing to not have access to if we only ever got our produce from the one farmstand. Eventually, we'll go back to shopping at the local farmer's market and will have access to a larger variety of fruits and vegetables.
