Living in Idaho there is such a focus on outdoor recreation which helps motivate me to bike ride, cross country ski, and hike. These outdoor activities improve not only my physical fitness but boost my mood and feelings of wellbeing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

The American food culture has become dominated by convenience rather than nutrition or sustainable agriculture. Take a look at the typical fast food menu and most choices are meat based - burger, taco, chicken nuggets. If we try to focus on eating locally grown foods we can support our community and reduce pollution.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degradation and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

Our area is susceptible to drought which impacts farming and food production. This in turn impacts those who depend on this work for their livelihood and the entire community. I liked this quote from one of the articles I read “helping the most vulnerable communities equates to helping everyone— slowing the spread of disease everywhere.”

I’ve been trying to focus on eating healthy and exercising - going for a walk or bike ride around the neighborhood or using a treadmill when the weather isn’t favorable. I also started using an app to for meditation which I have really enjoyed.

I watched the documentary “13” about the 13th amendment. Was eye opening to hear the perspectives of historians and social justice leaders. Of particular impact was the discussion on the increase in mass incarcerations beginning from the 1970s.
