REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Help OthersIn your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?
Tiffany Porter 10/28/2020 11:42 AMI think it’s a complicated question. I live on a street that is very diverse economically as well as racially, and I feel that we have a pretty strong sense of community in a sense. We all complain about each other, but when something happens, we all come together to help. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Nurture Self-CompassionHow can nurturing your Self-Compassion also nurture healthier relationships with others and the environment?
Tiffany Porter 10/28/2020 11:37 AMI think I’ve become more forgiving all around, and hopefully I will continue to go further. I think it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the climate crisis, and therefore harder to see accomplishments that are happening. While doing that, you kinda forgot how some environmental accomplishments are huge. So I think by nurturing self compassion, it will translate into feeling more nurturing towards nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Research Voter SuppressionWhat are the ways in which voters are prohibited from or discouraged from voting in your region and/or state? What could be done to get rid of these barriers?
Tiffany Porter 10/23/2020 7:30 PMI learned that in VA former felons aren't allowed to vote even after they have served their sentence. We also don't have same day voter registration. Currently there is an amendment out to further instill gerrymandering under the guise of bipartisanship. Lots could be done. VA is definitely more conservative than should be expected under total democratic control. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Learn About Constructive CommunicationHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
Tiffany Porter 10/15/2020 10:20 AMI think when people really listen to what you’re saying, it validates your feelings and there is a deeper understanding between two people. I think the nerve isn’t so raw, and I think you are more willing to find common ground then to just self protect, and I think that can led to some really beneficial improvements. -
