Do at Home
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
Do at Home
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
Do at Home
I will replace 8 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Chris Dunlap 10/26/2020 1:31 PMI’ve found that taking 5-minute showers isn’t too hard to do and I’ve decided that I will keep this up for the foreseeable future. At first, I thought that I would be rushing to get done in 5 minutes but I noticed that I was getting out of the shower right as the alarm on my phone went off, so it was pretty easy.

Chris Dunlap 10/25/2020 6:25 PMI never realized how much extra paper that I was throwing away when I was receiving paper bills in the mail. I’ve switched all my bills over to e-bills and now I’ve noticed that the amount of mail that I get has dropped by about half! E-bills are so much easier anyway and I don’t have to worry about a bill getting “lost” in the mail now.

Chris Dunlap 10/25/2020 6:18 PMI’m glad that I made the decision to upgrade some light bulbs in my home to LED bulbs. These bulbs can be expensive to buy, around $10 per bulb, but they use a fraction of the electricity of regular light bulbs and they are supposed to last up to 13 years before needing replaced.
