Joanne Schilz 10/28/2020 10:07 AMSo glad I completed the challenge. Though I didn't walk everyday, I did explore nature in some new places and some familiar ones. Thank you Bev for setting this up. -
Joanne Schilz 10/27/2020 2:44 PMOne more day to go! I'm glad I did this challenge. Getting outside everyday makes me feel more balanced. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Learn About Constructive CommunicationHow can you, your loved ones, the community, and environment all benefit from constructive communication?
Joanne Schilz 10/25/2020 9:28 AMConstructive communication gives us a chance to lower the temperature of communication by stepping back and listening and then responding with the heart. Practicing this will help the community as we come together to work on social problems like racial injustice. -
Joanne Schilz 10/24/2020 6:55 PMI feel good about my ecochallenge at this point. I am surprised it is almost over! I think it has helped me be mindful of my actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing and Renewal Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Joanne Schilz 10/23/2020 4:14 PMOne of my top core values is honesty. Again and again I find fault with people and I guess society for not being honest. This has been especially hard because its election season and honesty is hard to come by. I voted today so now I can really ignore all the crap. A second value is life long education. I have always been a learner and don't understand people who are not. I have been working on holding back my judgement for people who choose to be uneducated. Today someone came to vote in Milwaukee that was from Hales Corners. How do you do that? And there was a guy who moved and didn't have proof of his new address. Wonder if either of these people will actually vote in this election. I have always tried to step up and solve problems I see instead of standing by and doing nothing. I am president of my condo association so I can make living here better for everyone. I thought about these values after thinking about actions I have recently taken in my life and my patterns of actions. -
Joanne Schilz 10/21/2020 3:32 PMTook the day off today from walking but spent more than the usual time enjoying the nature at my home. neat to see robins, mourning doves, and the moon! Locust trees have a lot of pods again this year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Joanne Schilz 10/20/2020 5:47 PMOne reason is historically eating meat was considered a sign of wealth. Only the wealthy could afford to buy meat. Meat I guess was also considered the best form of nutrition. It cost a lot of money to raise a meat animal as opposed to eating what the animal would eat. I know some cultures use meat as almost a condiment and some cultures don't eat pork because of religious beliefs. -
Joanne Schilz 10/19/2020 7:30 PMI found it a little challenging today because I had to spend so much time putting on layers of clothes to go outside. I also am layering up in the house so I don't have to turn on the heat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Keep a Nature JournalWhat natural gifts are you grateful for?
Joanne Schilz 10/19/2020 2:37 PMReally isn't everything a natural gift? This time off year especially when we hit November, I am thankful for days or hours or even minutes when the sun is out and it warms up me and our south facing patio door. I love watching our dog move around to get the best position in the sun and relish the creep of the rays as they move across the carpet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Joanne Schilz 10/18/2020 2:01 PMToday I could feel the cold wind out of the west! Last night I could just hear the wind in the trees above me. Walking giving you a chance to use all your senses. I also like how walking in the same place gives me a chance to see changes happening in that spot or see a certain animal like a hummingbird in the willow tree.
