Janet's actions
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Core Values
Do at Home
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Water
Eco-Friendly Gardening
Do at Home
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Waste
Tour a Waste Management Facility
Do at Home
I will spend at least 60 minute(s) touring (virtually or in person) a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about our local waste and waste recovery streams.
Community
Sign Up to Vote
Do at Home
I will make sure I’m registered to vote. While I’m at it, I’ll sign up to help others register too!
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Do at Home
I will spend 20 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
Do at Home
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 3 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Do at Home
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
Do at Home
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
Do at Home
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Janet Taylor-Smith 10/15/2020 2:48 PMI would like to vary my challenges. I don't know how to remove them from daily-
Margaret Keefe 10/16/2020 10:51 AMJanet, I asked a question using the magnifying icon in the lower right corner of the page & got a fairly quick response—day or so.

Janet Taylor-Smith 10/09/2020 6:58 AMGiving straws & plastic utensils are so automatic even when you specifically ask not to get them. Then, they are just thrown out, since they've been put in the order. Very frustrating! -
Janet Taylor-Smith 10/07/2020 6:00 AMDay #1 is going well. I am already vegan, I stopped using plastic straws & single use cups/bottles a long while ago. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Janet Taylor-Smith 10/07/2020 5:53 AMFor a few items, I carry them out in my hands. For more than a few, I put the items directly back in the cart & take them to my car. I put them in bags at my car. No single use plastic bags!-
Janet Taylor-Smith 10/07/2020 10:27 AMWe can only use reusable bags if we bag items ourselves, or go through the self serve. -
Margaret Keefe 10/07/2020 6:50 AMAre your grocery stores allowing allowing reusable bags yet? I don't think ours is???
