Do at Home

Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Do at Home
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Waste
Compost Pet Waste
Pet waste and plastic bags take up a lot of space in landfills. Dog waste doesn't decompose the same way that food waste does the plastic bags we usually put it in don't decompose at all. A way to help with the plastic would be to use compostable or biodegradable bags. However, one step further is to compost pet waste entirely. There is a local company in Portland who will pick up your dog waste for a fee and compost it.
Health
Happiness
Do at Home
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Do at Home
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIf you were to only eat what is in season locally from now on, what would be the most difficult food item for you to give up? Why?
Cassie Crawford 10/07/2020 8:33 AMSince quarantine began, we've been sourcing 95% of our produce from a local farmstand. So far, I have noticed that I can't get all of the vegetables I might want but it hasn't been bad. I think that mushrooms would be the most difficult thing to not have access to if we only ever got our produce from the one farmstand. Eventually, we'll go back to shopping at the local farmer's market and will have access to a larger variety of fruits and vegetables.
