I spent 40 minutes today doing a beach clean up of about 3/4 of a mile of our beach.  There is a lot of beach rack right now which means that a lot of things are caught in the seaweed and on shore between tides so it was a great time to get out at low tide and remove a lot of the garbage and plastics that had been floating out at sea before high tide comes and takes those items back out to sea.  Most items were pieces of plastic and there were also some ropes, nets, shoe insoles, plastic silverware, etc.  But, the most interesting item that I picked up with a printer ink cartridge that had been in the ocean for awhile because it had shells attached to it!  CRAZY!!!!

Today my action for someone else was to deliver a package to someone's door here at the condo.  There was a large package sitting on top of the mail center boxes and it was about to rain...it was addressed to Meghan in the D Building so I thought maybe it was for our friends Tommy & Meghan who lived here but moved so I sent them a text and they said it wasn't theirs but it belonged to another person in the D Building named Meghan that was their former neighbor.  Meghan said she could text the person to let them know there was a package just sitting outside in the mail area for her but I told Meghan that since it was going to rain I would go and get the package and just deliver it to her door for her.  It felt nice to do something nice - especially for someone that I don't even know!

I am sad that this challenge is over tomorrow - I think it is a fun way to stay connected when we don't live close to each other and a way to educate ourselves and learn important new information as well as finding ways to be more sustainable and all around better people.  I plan to do my beach clean up tomorrow and then the only goals that I set for myself that I won't reach before the end of this challenge is kayaking (we had this planned but the weather didn't cooperate) and I need to make an appointment to get my eyes checked...I just hate going to the doctor for any reason so I've been dragging my feet!

I have barely looking at social media since we've started this challenge and I find it very freeing and relaxing!  Additionally I went through all the people that I follow on Instagram and stopped following nearly half of them - just people/places I don't really care about or am not in touch with or close to anymore so now I am basically just following close family/friends and a few places & teams that I care about (4Occean, cooking accounts, etc.) which I think is much better for me.  I would suggest that everyone go through who they are following and who is following them and remove any irrelevant people...I had people following me that I didn't even know and that was creepy and I removed them!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

EPIC FAIL!!!!  I found a recipe for sweet & spicy (brown sugar, honey, adobo pepper, cayenne pepper) apple chips that you can cook in the oven and thought this would be a great Fall treat/snack plus a new cooking method.  Well, the recipe said they needed to cook about 2 hours....I cooked them 4 hours and they still weren't done so then I turned up the heat and cooked them another 30 minutes and they were burnt but still not cooked & crisp.  And, when tasting them they are so spicy I couldn't have eaten them anyway.  Oh well, I tried and at least I get my points for completing this challenge and I will add an image of my failure for you all to enjoy - LOL

Today for for "Spread Happiness Challenge" I bought special Halloween dog treats at the pet store that I can give out to all the dogs that we know in the area this week.  I realized that we know more dog names than we do people names and that by having dogs it has helped us meet and consistently talk to a lot of people so I thought it would be fun to give out special Halloween Dog Treats when we walk Peyton this week and come across other dogs & their owners that we've met through having pets.
