Health
Hydrate
Remember to drink at least a few glasses of water a day to stay hydrated because I am terrible at this and need to improve.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
Do at Home
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Energy
Research "ECO-NORMAL" & "ECO-BOOST" Functionality of my washer & Dryer
I am hoping that utilizing these settings may reduce our energy usage for laundry since I have to do a load of laundry almost every day with all our beach, pool and workout clothing.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Do at Home
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 30 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
Check On K-Cup Recycling Options in Jax Beach
I would like to find out if there is a way for me to recycle the KCups that I use so I am going to do some research.
Community
Engage In Active Listening
Do at Home
I will practice actively listening to a friend, family member, co-worker, acquaintance, or someone who I may disagree with in at least 3 conversations.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Personally Delivering My Absentee Ballot
Take my Absentee Ballot to the Jacksonville Beach early voting location at the library to make sure that my vote is counted in this year's election.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Vote Via Absentee Ballot for the November Election
Complete my Absentee Ballot Form correctly so my votes and opinions count!
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Research All Candidates & Voting Issues On Our Ballot
I want to become more informed about voting issues and candidates on the ballot and make my own decisions on everything I vote for in the future.
Health
Go Get a Check Up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Support Native Communities
Do at Home
I will use the resource links provided and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Nature
Beach Clean Up
Keeping the beach/oceanfront clean and safe is a personal priority so I want to do my part by doing my own clean up.
Nature
Kayaking/Canoeing
I want to explore a new area from the vantage of the water. I've been wanting to do this ever since we moved to Jax Beach. This will be good for me mentally, physically and from a vantage point of appreciating nature.
Action Track: Healing and Renewal
Core Values
Do at Home
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
Do at Home
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Energy
Calculate the Carbon Footprint of my Household
Do at Home
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
Do at Home
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
Do at Home
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.

Community
Learn About Constructive Communication
Do at Home
I will spend 30 minute(s) learning about constructive communication.

Kimberly Pepple 10/28/2020 1:03 PMLET'S FINISH STRONG TEAM...WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO UPDATE OUR ACTIVIY AND GET POINTS!!!! -
Kimberly Pepple 10/28/2020 1:02 PMI spent 40 minutes today doing a beach clean up of about 3/4 of a mile of our beach. There is a lot of beach rack right now which means that a lot of things are caught in the seaweed and on shore between tides so it was a great time to get out at low tide and remove a lot of the garbage and plastics that had been floating out at sea before high tide comes and takes those items back out to sea. Most items were pieces of plastic and there were also some ropes, nets, shoe insoles, plastic silverware, etc. But, the most interesting item that I picked up with a printer ink cartridge that had been in the ocean for awhile because it had shells attached to it! CRAZY!!!! -
Kimberly Pepple 10/27/2020 2:11 PMToday my action for someone else was to deliver a package to someone's door here at the condo. There was a large package sitting on top of the mail center boxes and it was about to rain...it was addressed to Meghan in the D Building so I thought maybe it was for our friends Tommy & Meghan who lived here but moved so I sent them a text and they said it wasn't theirs but it belonged to another person in the D Building named Meghan that was their former neighbor. Meghan said she could text the person to let them know there was a package just sitting outside in the mail area for her but I told Meghan that since it was going to rain I would go and get the package and just deliver it to her door for her. It felt nice to do something nice - especially for someone that I don't even know! -
Kimberly Pepple 10/27/2020 2:07 PMI am sad that this challenge is over tomorrow - I think it is a fun way to stay connected when we don't live close to each other and a way to educate ourselves and learn important new information as well as finding ways to be more sustainable and all around better people. I plan to do my beach clean up tomorrow and then the only goals that I set for myself that I won't reach before the end of this challenge is kayaking (we had this planned but the weather didn't cooperate) and I need to make an appointment to get my eyes checked...I just hate going to the doctor for any reason so I've been dragging my feet! -
Kimberly Pepple 10/27/2020 2:03 PMI have barely looking at social media since we've started this challenge and I find it very freeing and relaxing! Additionally I went through all the people that I follow on Instagram and stopped following nearly half of them - just people/places I don't really care about or am not in touch with or close to anymore so now I am basically just following close family/friends and a few places & teams that I care about (4Occean, cooking accounts, etc.) which I think is much better for me. I would suggest that everyone go through who they are following and who is following them and remove any irrelevant people...I had people following me that I didn't even know and that was creepy and I removed them! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Kimberly Pepple 10/27/2020 1:58 PMEPIC FAIL!!!! I found a recipe for sweet & spicy (brown sugar, honey, adobo pepper, cayenne pepper) apple chips that you can cook in the oven and thought this would be a great Fall treat/snack plus a new cooking method. Well, the recipe said they needed to cook about 2 hours....I cooked them 4 hours and they still weren't done so then I turned up the heat and cooked them another 30 minutes and they were burnt but still not cooked & crisp. And, when tasting them they are so spicy I couldn't have eaten them anyway. Oh well, I tried and at least I get my points for completing this challenge and I will add an image of my failure for you all to enjoy - LOL-
Kimberly Pepple 10/28/2020 1:05 PMWho gave me a high five for my FAILED APPLE CHIPS - LOL

Kimberly Pepple 10/24/2020 4:53 PMToday for for "Spread Happiness Challenge" I bought special Halloween dog treats at the pet store that I can give out to all the dogs that we know in the area this week. I realized that we know more dog names than we do people names and that by having dogs it has helped us meet and consistently talk to a lot of people so I thought it would be fun to give out special Halloween Dog Treats when we walk Peyton this week and come across other dogs & their owners that we've met through having pets. -
Kimberly Pepple 10/23/2020 7:17 PMJust some interesting information about BrewHound...they now have information on their website about their environmental consciousness and steps they are taking to operate as a green business. I thought you might be interested in reading the information below...
ALSO, we are planning to take Peyton to BrewHound to support their business!
